I was browsing through new posts from my Instagram account, and then I saw three consecutive posts from Kristine Hermosa Sotto (@khsotto ). I was inspired, really. So inspired I made this (quoted from her posts). I found out from the photo comments the posts were from All Devotion Bible application. Inspiring message from Psalm 25:5.
It’s summer and the weird weather made my girls thirst more not just for snacks that can keep their cool but for fun indoor activities as well. Due to our very tight budget (yes, you have read it right), we are mostly just at home and our outdoor activities normally happens during Sundays to attend the mass and mid-week for the market. That is already fun, we make sure there is learning and so as fun. It is honestly a challenge but I am a bit surprise of myself too that I have become good with budget meals and still serve kids with healthy snacks. We also have been making ice pops (ice candy), Buko Pandan or Lychee flavored gelatin and Mais con Hielo. Plus, we have been receiving servings of HaloHalo (from in laws) too.
As a SMM assistant, I have been consistently updating a client’s Pinterest account and learned a lot from it already. Home ideas, DIYs and life hacks as well. I have been pinning most of the ideas I get from everywhere in Pinterest and so as trying some, when I need to.
My elder daughter started sneezing and coughing hard Friday night during sleep and then suffered from colds, headache and low fever the next day. This may have been because we frequently grab something cold to drink and munch on. So, right before sleeping, I tried this on her:
I gave her a little massage as I rub ample amount of Vick’s Vapo-Rub on her neck, back and chest . Her little sister also insisted on having some in her feet and to put on her socks afterwards. I’ll have to make sure too to serve them with either Kalamansi juice or PJ. I have read from a Pinterest photo link that: “Pineapple Juice is 5 times more effective than cough syrup. It also prevents colds and flu.” We love Pineapple juice and so as munching the sweet fruit itself.
I am thankful to have learned a lot from Pinterest but I never liked to use any life hacks such as this one (cure tips) especially for my kids. Health is wealth as we say and parents would not want kids to suffer even from cough and colds. With this being said, I also have doubled their Vitamin C intake. This has worked for my kids every time.
Today, I got up a little late for the Sunday mass on TV. Still, I decided to start my day with the mass. I missed about 80% of the mass but really learned something great. There, I found out that today is The Divine Mercy Sunday, the first Sunday after Easter.
When I was a still a kid, I remember that my Grandmother (who was then a member of The Catholic Women’s League) would always encourage me and my cousins to come with her to church and attend the mass and even join processions. Now, I have realized that the procession that happens every Sunday after Easter is for the feast of The Divine Mercy.
I have then made a little research about the Divine Mercy Sunday and I am glad I did because today is also a special and blessed day for all the Catholics in the world. Popes John XXIII and John Paul II will be canonized today. The canonization of the two former Popes will be presided by Pope Francis during a Mass at the St. Peter’s Square. Huge crowd has poured in Rome as this is yet another global media event to look forward to.
Everything that follows herewith are the information I got from Wiki:
Divine Mercy Sunday is originally based on the Catholic devotion to the Divine Mercy that Saint Faustina Kowalska reported as part of her encounter with Jesus, and is associated with special promises from Jesus and indulgences issued by the Church.
Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun reported visions and visitations from Jesus and conversations with Him. He asked her to paint the vision of his Merciful Divinity being poured from his sacred heart and specifically asked for a feast of Divine Mercy to be established on the first Sunday after Easter so mankind would take refuge in Him:
“I want the image solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it.” (Jesus’ words, Diary 341)
“Yes, the first Sunday after Easter is the Feast of Mercy, but there must also be deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to our neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to absolve yourself from it.” (Diary 742)
The devotion was actively promoted by Pope John Paul II who, On 30 April 2000, canonized Faustina Kowalska, and officially designated the Sunday after Easter as the Sunday of the Divine Mercy in the General Roman Calendar.
A year after establishing Divine Mercy Sunday, on April 22, 2001 Pope John Paul II re-emphasized its message in the resurrection context of Easter:
Jesus said to Sr Faustina one day: “Humanity will never find peace until it turns with trust to Divine Mercy”. Divine Mercy! This is the Easter gift that the Church receives from the risen Christ and offers to humanity.
The devotion to Divine Mercy Sunday grew rapidly after its designation by Pope John Paul II and is now widely celebrated by Catholics.
My friend Pia recommended this movie to me when she tagged me in her Facebook status sometime last week. In her stat, she has declared how she has been touched by the movie that she had to suffer from a headache after crying (because of the movie).
From then, I searched for info and photos of Miracle in Cell No.7 and honestly got a lot more curious. Since last week was the Holy Week, I grabbed the opportunity to work for additional hours. We stayed at home and only until Sunday did we went out and attended the “Salubong” and Easter Sunday mass. I forgot about the movie already. My kids and I (while working) watched previous seasons of Amazing Race and also the pilot episode of The Bible. And then, I saw another good review of the movie Miracle in Cell No.7 which reminded me to look for a good link, so we can watch it online. I did found one and we watched the movie last night, at last!
Miracle in Cell No.7, if you will search through Wiki and IMDb is South Korean film which is a mix of comedy and melodrama. It is a story of a witty and adorable 6 year old girl and her mentally challenged father. The loving father who was wrongfully accused of abduction, sexual abuse and murder. It is a beautiful story of a father who will do everything to give his daughter the best he can (even given with challenges). A (real life) story of how people, in their words and in their acts can change and give another person’s life a twist. Bad and good, I should say. It is a sad story of how power and education (can I please include politics) can do great to someone’s life but can also ruin it – totally screw it!
The movie, Miracle in Cell No.7 is yet another movie a lot of us can not forget. We may have seen things in it in different perspectives but each of these views have touched our hearts and taught our minds. In the end, family is not just about blood. True friends are family too. The movie also reminded me that sometimes the little things have the biggest impacts in our lives.
This movie, by the way, is the 3rd most viewed Korean film. We highly recommend for you to also watch Miracle in Cell No.7 and better ready your tissues or handkerchief with you. No one is ever hard not to be moved by the movie.
Everyone is very much excited to see the Philippines’ pride Manny Pacquiao in his battle, once again, with Bradley. Who will ever forget Pacquiao’s defeat last 2012? It broke the heart of many Filipinos and Pacquiao fans worldwide. And today, in this second bound, will Manny Pacquiao finally redeem himself? This rematch is definitely a competitive one and as expected, Manny Pacquiao is the favorite. Let us wait and see as the fight will start and end tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. And did you know that Pacquiao has been fighting for over a decade now in Las Vegas? He has earned a lot in all his fight and so as the Las Vegas establishments as well. So, lets give everyone in Las Vegas, Pacquiao and his opponents a shout out!
Pacquiao, Filipinos will never quit loving you as a boxer. Whatever happens, you have brought so much pride for the Filipinos worldwide. All the best, Pambansang Kamao!
But then, there are moments you realize it on your own (or with a help of a loved one or a friend) that good things always outweigh the bad. That is when we realize that blessings are all over us, in different forms and sizes, senses and uses. And just like cups, we have to let the beauty of these blessings come out. So, we can share and be a blessing to another.
And at the end of the day, everything just proves that GOD is so amazing!
I have recently found a TV show for kids – Sheriff Callie’s Wild West!
The very first episode we have watched (Roey and I) has this song entitled “Saying I’m Sorry!” And it has become part of Roey’s favorite songs list from then on. Both my kids love to sing and that particular song is something any Mom will recommend. It is not just so easy to sing, it is also meaningful. Meaningful in the sense that it teaches the importance of saying “I’m Sorry”. Educating my kids with good manners and values is on top of my parenting priorities. I am not alone in this for sure.
Here’s the lyrics of the song from Sheriff Callie’s Wild West:
Sayin’ you’re sorry isn’t always easy to say. But those two little words can help a lot to save a friendship any day.
Sayin’ you’re sorry isn’t always easy to do. But you’ll feel good when you apologize and your friend will feel better too.
Sometimes we all say some things we wish we could take back. That’s the time to apologize and get your friendship back on track.
Sayin’ I’m sorry isn’t always easy to say. But those two little words could help a lot to save a friendship any day.
Sayin’ you’re sorry isn’t always easy to do. But you’ll feel good when you apologize And your friend will feel better too.
Go ahead and try to search it in YouTube and sing along with your kids. In the end, even if you didn’t have to say you are sorry, you will sure feel good.
No matter how yesterday was, everyday is a blessing!
Since we receive a blessing that moment we open our eyes each morning, it is but right to be thankful. I must admit, I have only fully accepted this fact when I became a Mom. It was a futile realization I must say. So, if stress has made me skip saying a prayer before bedtime, I have to say it upon waking up. The thank you prayer has to include that I was awakened, I was me as I was yesterday and have another chance to make myself better. This time, it is not just for myself but for my family, most importantly.
Last March, our Facebook news feed were flooded with recognition and graduation photos and congratulatory statuses. I am just one of the many proud parents who added new photos. Every time I see a photo of a medal or award/s, I know there is this smile in my face. I can somehow feel the parents’ happiness with the little and big awards our kids achieved. I told K that even if she did not end up in the honor roll, I am so proud of her. Her achievements since Kindergarten surpassed my expectations. When she entered Grade school, I started teaching her to be self-reliant but she still have me around for hand-on reviews. When she reached 3rd grade, we were both heartbroken with the loss of my mom and slacked a little. She went on with her independence during exams while my everyday activities were divided to her toddler (back then) sister, household chores and home-based job. It worsen as bigger challenges were thrown upon us… upon me. I was reminded by K of a promise I made to her, a promise that I have already forgotten. I told her that it will be hard but a promise is a promise. A tight hug after a mother-daughter conversation served as a seal that we were in it together. So, fulfilled promise- K graduated at Marian School of QC. My closest friends and family knows how it was a struggle – physically, emotionally and financially. But as I have mentioned, everyday is a blessing! And, blessings come in different forms, sizes and sometimes in disguise. Sometimes they can move, talk and even dance. Life’s drama has just made my little miss K stronger than she think she is. She has matured and learned how to be happy for the blessings she receives. And to be happy for another person’s happiness and achievements too, especially her closest friends. I sometimes ask her if she gets jealous, and each time, she answers back with a question: “Why would I be?” I always end up smiling.
I am aiming to teach my kids how to see and feel things from the perspective of others. Knowing how to empathize is one of the firsts, in many life skills a person should learn. With Roey, this is still vague and might be a long process. With K, I just have to be here as a constant reminder. My success in this parent challenge will be my future leaders’ success as well. Knowing how it is to have none, to be inferior and to have a sense of contentment with what we have will sure help them be successful leaders. Successful and genuinely happy leaders in whatever field they may take.
My tears flooded after reading K’s letter to me they handed during their graduation ceremonies. As soon as I saw the letter in her hands, tears were ready to flow. Same reason why I had to read it at home when they were all asleep. That same letter is the exact reason why I have confirmed that no matter how yesterday was, everyday is a blessing!
Congratulations again my dear Keanna, my first baby. Please remember that you are the very first reason I believed in love at first sight, I believed in hope and that real beauty shines from within. Never doubt Mommy when I tell you are beautiful, because you really are. You are a blessing and I could not be thankful enough.
One morning, I decided to serve both K & Roey Banana oatmeal. K ended up eating both servings and Roey ate Bananas instead. K got used to eating anything you serve her, believe it or not. My Mama has really helped a lot in her eating habits. She may be skinny but I am thankful that she is not sickly as well. Both my kids, actually. Thanks to HIM! Because, health is definitely a priority for me, and then education.
Roey, on the other hand, is the picky eater, she is not skinny though. She has just learned ( I don’t know where!) to say no to any food she thinks to be yucky! Unfortunately, the oatmeal I served them was one. So, the Mom in me was given a challenge. How can I make this kid eat oatmeal?
Since I have been seeing oatmeal biscuit recipes online, why not try one? So, I ended up with these Banana-Raisin Oatmeal cookie cups the next morning and was very satisfied with the result.
She ate 2 cookie cups for breakfast and kept coming back to the fridge until every cookie is gone. K enjoyed the cookie cups too. Too bad I was out of flour and only ended up with 18 pieces that day. I also made a Choco Banana Oatmeal cupcake after few days for a variety. And will sure explore more healthy baking and cooking innovations for my loves.
How about you?
Hope you can share your Mommy-moves and creative tactics in serving your kids healthy breakfast or snacks, I would sure appreciate that!
Thanks in advance and happy baking or cooking and then eating! Ha! Ha!
My Pinterest account has been in existence for quite some time now. It has caught my attention with the graphics/photos in it. I still can recall that everything has started as a hobby and now, Pinterest for me has become Pinterest-ing! It is not just PInterest though, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram too! In short, these social media websites are part of the reasons why we have a lot to be thankful for.
I remember to have created boards for photography, fashion (kids and ladies), sewing & DIY ideas, kitchen & baking supplies and tools, inspiring quotes and what I named: Dream House Project.
If you already have a Pinterest account, you can follow me – SEPTEMBERCHARM so we can get to exchange ideas thru pins. If you would like to be inspired in building your own dream house, follow KCK and you will sure be amaze on a number of ideas you can get, from cabinets, bathrooms, kitchens to dinnerware.
My dream house project has almost everything in it, I suppose. I have photos of bedrooms, kitchens, backyards, libraries, laundry rooms and a lot more. I have recently shared a photo in Facebook (I got from PInterest) which caught my attention, a backyard with flower and vegetable garden. I have even mentioned that having something like that is one of my many dreams. I definitely would like to have even a small one if we would be blessed to own a home we can call our own. And I will make it a point to learn how to nurture everything Green that will grow in that dream backyard garden in which later on can be used in cooking! I love to cook too!
Speaking of which, in case you already have a garden (indoor or outdoor), visit Access Hydro for your garden tools and supplies needs.
