Labs Kita, Okey Ka Lang: Hit with the Millennials

Late last Sunday night, the digitally restored version of one of the most memorable Pinoy hugot movies was aired. Both my girls know Jolina Magdangal as the Momshie they get to see hosting Magandang Buhay on weekday mornings and that made them a lot more interested with the movie. Again, it was aired past midnight already so I only allowed them to see the first few scenes. But does not include this scene recorded by my elder daughter’s friend…

Bujoy: Yes kaibigan mo ko … kaibigan mo LANG ako! And that’s all I ever was to you Ned – your best friend. Takbuhan mo kapag may problema ka. Taga sunod, taga bigay ng advice, taga enroll… taga-gawa ng assignment. Taga pagpatawa sa iyo kapag nalulungkot ka, taga-tanggap ng kahit na ano. And I’m so stupid for making the biggest mistake of falling in love with my best friend! Dahil kahit kailan hindi mo naman ako makikita eh. Kahit kailan hindi mo ako kayang mahalin na higit pa sa isang kaibigan.”

Ned: “Bujoy … Bujoy..”

Bujoy: Ngayong alam mo na, I think you can get out of my life!”

Ned: Bujoy, mahal kita! Mahal kita Bujoy! Mahal na mahal kita kaya siguro duwag ako. Kung magka-relasyon tayo, paano kung masaktan kita? Baka yung Bujoy na kaibigan ko mawala pa. Bujoy, hindi ko kayang mawala ka sa buhay ko.”

Apparently, it was not just my daughters who actually wanted to stay up that late to see the movie. Jolina and Marvin’s movie was a hit during our teenage years in 1998 and it is still because of the relatable story. Bujoy (Jolina Magdangal) and Ned (Marvin Agustin) are childhood best friends who really treated each other like a family. It was only until they started to date other people when Ned realized he loves Bujoy who has long kept her love for her childhood friend. The realization then led to that particular scene above.

Millennials were shookt! Those who were “Friendzoned” sometime in their lives, especially! A lot were able to relate their own stories to other scenes too if not this one. Famous lines, photos and video clips from the movie has somehow trended in Twitter and on Instagram. Someone from IG even said: “2018 na pero yung kilig feels 1998 pa rin.” Instagram user “fkwlf2_ (I honestly like this best) posted a photo of a scene and captioned:

“Yung feeling na isang linggo ko itong inabangan and yes natapos ko siya and worth it! Huhuhu Nakakakilig na nakakaiyak, worth it ang puyat. Worth to watch! Yung hihilingin mo na lang na sana nabuhay ka na sa panahon na yan. Sheemmmsss yung walang internet walang gadgets, yung aamin yung crush mo sayo ng harapan at hindi sa messenger. Pinakadabest na panahon to para sa akin kahit di pa ko buhay niyan at thank God napanuod ko itong napakagandang movie na ito at feeling ko tuloy batang 90s ako. Sarap ulit ulitin!!”

And a lot others expressed their hopes for a sequel. Perhaps what happened after 20 years?

Be Moved By Miracle in Cell No.7 Movie

My friend Pia recommended this movie to me when she tagged me in her Facebook status sometime last week. In her stat, she has declared how she has been touched by the movie that she had to suffer from a headache after crying (because of the movie).

From then, I searched for info and photos of Miracle in Cell No.7 and honestly got a lot more curious. Since last week was the Holy Week, I grabbed the opportunity to work for additional hours. We stayed at home and only until Sunday did we went out and attended the “Salubong” and Easter Sunday mass. I forgot about the movie already. My kids and I (while working) watched previous seasons of Amazing Race and also the pilot episode of The Bible. And then, I saw another good review of the movie Miracle in Cell No.7 which reminded me to look for a good link, so we can watch it online. I did found one and we watched the movie last night, at last!

Miracle in Cell No.7, if you will search through Wiki and IMDb is South Korean film which is a mix of comedy and melodrama. It is a story of a witty and adorable 6 year old girl and her mentally challenged father. The loving father who was wrongfully accused of abduction, sexual abuse and murder. It is a beautiful story of a father who will do everything to give his daughter the best he can (even given with challenges). A (real life) story of how people, in their words and in their acts can change and give another person’s life a twist. Bad and good, I should say. It is a sad story of how power and education (can I please include politics) can do great to someone’s life but can also ruin it – totally screw it!

The movie, Miracle in Cell No.7 is yet another movie a lot of us can not forget. We may have seen things in it in different perspectives but each of these views have touched our hearts and taught our minds. In the end, family is not just about blood. True friends are family too. The movie also reminded me that sometimes the little things have the biggest impacts in our lives.

This movie, by the way, is the 3rd most viewed Korean film. We highly recommend for you to also watch Miracle in Cell No.7 and better ready your tissues or handkerchief with you. No one is ever hard not to be moved by the movie.

Frozen: Our New Favorite Disney Movie

Everyone’s been talking about Frozen. A lot has loved Elsa, Anna and of course, Olaf!

Every little girl may have already sang their own cover of “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?” and “Let It Go”. My girls did. Unfortunately, the audio of my netbook is not working. The video recorder of my phone did not work either. So, we have an audio less video. It is proper not to show it at all, ha ha!

I can no longer recall as to how many times we and they watched Frozen. I have enjoyed the movie too. I loved how Disney showed different characteristics of modern women, princesses in the movie, of course. When you become a Mom, you will be more (a lot more) observant. Observant of almost everything about your girls – their likes and dislikes, their attitude, their moves and so as choice of friends. Disney has successfully showed the difference between Elsa and Anna – described as introvert and extrovert during our time. now, they can be described as elegant and the latter, fearless.

On the other hand, did you notice how fab and fashionable Elsa was? I so love her gown when she changed while singing the famous “Let It Go”. My elder daughter K has been watching YouTube videos of different artists drawing and painting Elsa. Said she also liked Elsa’s gown and hairstyle. But guess what? I found her drawing Olaf instead.

And then, was asked by her little sister for help and draw Olaf again.

K also made another drawing of the different characters of frozen – as finger puppets!
