My daughter K, @heyitskea on Instagram, installed AutoDesk Sketchbook and made herself busy with a few small artworks.
This one below took her a week if I’m not mistaken. She is a fan of BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan or Bulletproof Boy Scouts), specifically Kim Taehyung a.k.a. V. She must have thought of challenging herself to try a little more complicated image, thus chose this one. I just had to take a screenshot of both the reference and her accomplishment. Along the way, she got worried saying she can not do the teeth and hair parts as they seem too difficult. There was even an outline at first, but I had to ask her try without it instead to add to the already significant difficulty.
Also, I had to tell her that it is indeed difficult as she is obviously a beginner. It will go easy along the way. The “keep trying” and “never give up” advises worked for her. This was a chance for me to remind our daughter that “All things are difficult before they become easy.” And nothing will ever be accomplished if you just keep telling yourself that the situation or task is hard, you gotta face that fear, start and keep going to achieve success.
She posted her finished artworks in her Instagram account @heyitskea_. As a Mom, I can not help but be proud of her. Oh! By the way, she made this using her mobile phone, no stylus used, just her bare fingers. With the satisfied look on her face after posting her “Taehyung” artwork, I know that she will be creating a few more, more of BTS. She has received email messages and direct messages too expressing their admiration of her works.
Her love of drawing and designing has made her decide to take Arts and Design Track, Visual Arts strand in Senior High. She even has another mobile phone app installed called Design Home (Crowdstar Inc) and I guess it helps her learn more about interior designing and sharpen her skills too. She has not completely decided yet if she will push for Architecture or Interior Design in college, and it may still change as she face the fun and challenges of senior high. For us her parents, she has our support and guidance – to anything that would make her happy and give her the feeling of fulfillment – all the way.
Autism is commonly heard, however, there are several speculations about Autism and of the people affected by it. In the Philippines, it is estimated that there are around 1 million people living with Autism, yet not everybody can understand what it it’s like. The Autism Spectrum Disorder is a condition where a person who is diagnosed with it will not have the same experiences but are noticed by the core symptoms.
Meet Calel, he is a 6-year old who was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) at the age of four. A year ago, he discovered his love for animals and drawing and once he starts on a sketch pad he just cannot stop – his mother Marie, started posting his artwork on Facebook, when a friend commented that if in the case the drawing is produced to be printed on a t-shirt – he definitely would buy. After a few months, Marie launched Calel’s Wacky Art Shirts for 3 reasons: to help with Calel’s therapy needs, to develop the business to eventually be taken over by Calel (when he gets older) and to spread Autism awareness.
Occupational and Speech therapy is costly. Also, there are limited specialists in the Philippines. Kids with ASD need to attend SPED (Special Education) classes which can cost up to Php60,000 a year. For every shirt purchased, this will help Calel’s parents to make sure he gets the special treatments he needs.Calel’s future is still unclear at the age of 6, he shows signs of progress but it is hard to tell if he will be able to live a normal life or yet alone become employed. If Calel’s Wacky Art Shirts becomes a success, this may become his own business to handle. With the first batch of t-shirts printed and distributed, people that ordered have started to ask about Calel and his condition. This helped Marie talk about Autism and educate people on what their family experience day-to-day including the highs and lows. There are so many designs to choose from Calel’s Wacky Art Shirts and each is unique which you will surely love. T-shirt’s come in kids, men and women’s sizes.
Calel’s Wacky Art Shirts are being offered at introductory prizes for the first 100 customers. Please visit their Instagram account for updates and designs: calelswackyartshirts
You may help Calel by purchasing a shirt through their Shopee account: mamaneesshop
They are also accepting donations for art materials like sketch pads, crayons, colored pencils and pens.
I got so hyped when I learned that I have been picked and featured by Jen of @littlemomentsapp in the theme “clouds” from @fatmumslim ‘s Photo A Day Challenge. The excitement was high I had to share the post by Jen @love_wednesday in my own IG account and in Facebook too. Pardon that excitement I mentioned as it was the first time I got featured. Haha!
Here is the Fab Four for the “clouds” theme last March 14. It would be great if you could also check out and follow the other three Instagrammers featured.
If I recall it correctly, I was a day late in posting my entry for the theme but maybe because the photo of my daughters is quite nice, I got in the Fab Four. I have been on and off in participating in the FMS Photo A Day Challenge in the past years but I am proud that this year, I have not skipped any theme yet… yes! Really hoping I could continue this no-skip streak for the entire year. Thanks to my daughter @iam_k23 as she helped me with a number of themes or prompts with her photos she allowed me to use. She was able to explore Manila during their class field trip and having a better phone camera of course, she took a lot of photos. I really mean a lot. Too many that when she shared it to me through Bluetooth, my phone’s memory got really occupied. I have to really curate all of the photos she shared though and also remembers to give her the credits whenever I use them in Instagram.
Having been able to be part of the Fab Four, I am but inspired to snap more hopefully-beautiful-photos and share it in my Instagram account, not to boast but to express and maybe inspire too.
Up is the list of prompts and hashtags for the entire month of April. Join us this April in FatMumSlim’s Photo A Day Challenge. See how you can also challenge and express yourself through the photos you share in Instagram.
A stay-at-home-mom has to be creative in different aspects and levels, that is. I guess it is one requirement to keep a Mom’s sanity, haha! Kidding aside, I have not mastered any of my interests, I just try to learn things a little each day. Since I was a kid, crafting never failed to get my attention. And it just continued now that I am already a mom.
Last February, I made something glittery for my elder daughter’s ramp modeling project at school. The school has always reminded not to spend so much for their costumes and encouraged the students and so as the parents to make use of something old, to re-purpose and bring out the creativeness. Since we are cost cutting for the theme “futuristic”, I decided on a DIY shoes. We used K’s old Maroon flats (quite small already but still fits) and turned it to a glittery pair instead. She liked it a lot!
What you need:
A pair of shoes
Glue (I used rugby, Toluene free)
small paint brush or old toothbrush
(For the foil flower)
Foil (cut in circles)
2 Pellon fabric (cut in 2″ round)
The process is just simple. Wipe clean the pair of slippers and spread (using the brush) enough amount of glue to the shoes. Let stand for about 2 to 3 minutes and spread the glitters generously. Remember to lineup old newspaper on your work area so as to catch the glitter remains. You are not to throw them away, of course. Once the whole area has been covered, let it dry. You can brush it again with glue to lock in the glitters. I did not. I mean, I didn’t bother because I forgot to… hahaha!
For the foil flowers, I followed the steps I found from a Pinterest post. There are different variations you can pick from.
I will definitely do this again, if not with shoes, I will sure find other stuff to glitter!
Everyone’s been talking about Frozen. A lot has loved Elsa, Anna and of course, Olaf!
Every little girl may have already sang their own cover of “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?” and “Let It Go”. My girls did. Unfortunately, the audio of my netbook is not working. The video recorder of my phone did not work either. So, we have an audio less video. It is proper not to show it at all, ha ha!
I can no longer recall as to how many times we and they watched Frozen. I have enjoyed the movie too. I loved how Disney showed different characteristics of modern women, princesses in the movie, of course. When you become a Mom, you will be more (a lot more) observant. Observant of almost everything about your girls – their likes and dislikes, their attitude, their moves and so as choice of friends. Disney has successfully showed the difference between Elsa and Anna – described as introvert and extrovert during our time. now, they can be described as elegant and the latter, fearless.
On the other hand, did you notice how fab and fashionable Elsa was? I so love her gown when she changed while singing the famous “Let It Go”. My elder daughter K has been watching YouTube videos of different artists drawing and painting Elsa. Said she also liked Elsa’s gown and hairstyle. But guess what? I found her drawing Olaf instead.
And then, was asked by her little sister for help and draw Olaf again.
K also made another drawing of the different characters of frozen – as finger puppets!
Last May 6 was my Mama’s 70th birthday …could have been, I mean. I thought of scrapping to give tribute to her. Credits to Studio Flergs and LorieM for the paper and embellishments I used. Here was my FB post then…
Happy birthday MAMA!
I know, if you were only alive and with us today, you would have been so happy to celebrate your 70th year. I could have granted a great wish of yours or perhaps brought you to a place you’ve never been.
These will no longer happen, but in my heart, I know that you are in bliss! You are in a much happier place than in any place here on Earth and I could never surpass the greatest gift you have now – being with HIM. I LOVE YOU, MA! I am wishing on your behalf now, that somehow, you have never forgotten that, even if we’re no longer together. You know what? It makes me smile when I look at the mirror now and see our resemblance. I would not forget how we make fun and joke about our appearances when I was young and no matter how hard we pick flaws at each other – we end up agreeing we’re both petite and beautiful. There’s a lot more to reminisce Mama, and if it is possible there in heaven to get a free movie on your birthday, hope you’d pick to see our life together.
Remember the kidnapping attempt of a demented woman when I was 3? I am just sooooooo thankful & happy it didn’t succeed – I got to be with my remarkable MAMA. Again, just what I have told you years ago… I would never trade you! You are the BEST mother for me and your granddaughters. We LOVE you so much! Mwah!
And again, with all our hearts – Happy Mother’s Day too!
When I was little, you’ll find me doodling and reading more than I am in front of the computer now. Besides the fact that I love drawing, we did not really have a computer yet then. Ha! Ha!
Kidding aside, here are some words to inspire us this time of the year. I know for a fact that a lot of us are on “vacation” right now, enjoying. But there are still a lot of us too, that is taking the time to do a little soul searching and some others repent their sins in many simple and complex ways they can. but however we spend our Holy Week, these words would sure remind us of something about us and much more, about life.
Humility, bravery, love, trust, family values, peace, friendship and positivism are just some of what we, as humans, should really incorporate within ourselves. It may be a little hard but with open-mindedness and HIS guidance, we will be who we want to be and should be, we will get to where we belong and we should be – slowly but surely.
My elder daughter, K , has always been interested in arts. She is into painting and drawing. I have saved some of her old artworks (when she was still younger) and some we can no longer find. From the mess of watercolors, pencils, markers and crayons, her interest in drawing has evolved. Now, she’s enjoying her ability either using MS Paint or this application I got for her from Google Play – KidsDoodle!
Here are some of her doodles using the said application…
Besides K, my younger daughter showed interest too. Roey can already write letters from A to D and has been doodling too using crayons and water color. Her big sister once showed her the KidsDoodle application and out of curiosity, she tried using it too.
So, last but not the least, here is something my 3yo daughter, Roey, created…
In case you are wondering what that is, she drew a letter A and a W. As I have mentioned, we were practicing writing and currently at the letter D but she has already learned W in advance. Hooray for that, hooray for her drawing and another hooray for being able to use the apps without further instructions. Kids nowadays…
Yesterday was my Mama’s 2nd death anniversary. We offered a mass for her soul and dropped by the cemetery. I’ve been dreaming of her almost every week which made me truly miss her. These adjectives aren’t enough to describe how wonderful she’s been not just to me but to my kids and so as my friends. A lot can testify on that.
Losing a Mother is really though but it has made me tougher as a person and a Mom too. I could not thank my Mom enough for all of what she taught and imparted me. As go on with life, I feel so blessed and lucky that I was once her baby. If given another chance to live, I would like her to be my Mother again.
Mama, I miss you! We miss you!
We hope that you are so much happier now in heaven!
My friend asked me to make an invitation and tarpaulin for my Godson Miggi”s 3rd birthday. I gladly said yes sine I haven”t done any scrapbooking lately. I decided to look for freebies that I can use for the Angry Birds theme. I found one from Shery K Designs and I am very thankful that it made my project cute and it was done with ease. I also found a Dora The Explorer and Minni Mouse theme I might download too in preparation for my daughter”s birthday as well. This site is really awesome.
Thank you as well to my friend Hazel who owns Funtastic Shots Photobooth. She helped me with some Photoshop tips. I am happy with the outcome of the Angry bird themed invitation and tarp I made specially for Miggi.
